Character

Tuesday 19th January 2021                LO: to explore the use of characterisation in a film.

Protagonist:  Bill Denbrough, 13 years old, he is determined to find his brother who went missing.

Antagonist: Pennywise, he is a creature who can only be seen by children, he can shapeshift into many different being such as a clown

Sidekicks: Stanley Uris, Beverly Marsh, Richie Tozier, Ben Hanscom, Eddie Kaspbrack

Pennywise is the main character

The story is about Pennywise and a group of children who try to defeat pennywise

Pennywise looks like a clown most of the time and has a slightly creepy appearance.

The way Pennywise looks suggests that he is a clown and clowns are usually associated with children which could suggest that he could be looking for children or associated with children. He also looks slightly creepy and possibly evil which suggests that he is evil or the villain.

Pennywise usually whispers or laughs when he is speaking and he talks about floating a lot for example "we all float down here" and "you'll float too".

Pennywise acts nice at first to lure children to him however he then hurts them or scares them and treats them completely different to how he did before. So he behaves violently towards other characters and he is not a friendly character.

The character that interests me the most is Pennywise because he is an interesting and complex character.

The story would be quite different if one of the characters were taken away or added because they each had small individual problems of there own which all had some kind of significance in the story.

Propp's theory

The hero: Bill because he is the leader of the losers club which is the club that he created with his friends to try and defeat pennywise. And he wants to find his younger brother who went missing.

The villain: Pennywise because he feeds off of children's fear and he is the reason as to why a lot of the children went missing.

The donor: Ben because he found the book with pictures and information about Pennywise in it.

The helper: Beverly, Richie, Eddie and Stanley because they helped Bill.

The princess: George

The dispatcher: Not sure

The princess's father: Bill because he is protective over George and wants to save him.
