A science fiction film I would expect the setting to be something like a science laboratory and I would expect there to be props that are related to science or props that would be found in a science laboratory. 2. A romantic comedy I would expect the setting to be quite calm and peaceful.  3. A horror film I would expect the setting to be dark and creepy and the props to be also dark, mysterious and creepy and related to the theme of the film. A director might choose this setting for a horror film because it makes it creepier if the house is in the middle of no where as the characters cannot escape easily and get help if they are in danger so it is more likely that whatever is after the characters will be able to get to the characters. 2.
