Setting and props

 What settings, locations and props would you expect to find in:

1. A science fiction film

I would expect the setting to be something like a science laboratory and I would expect there to be props that are related to science or props that would be found in a science laboratory.

2. A romantic comedy

I would expect the setting to be quite calm and peaceful. 

3. A horror film

I would expect the setting to be dark and creepy and the props to be also dark, mysterious and creepy and related to the theme of the film.

Costume, hair and makeup

What can you tell about the following characters from their costume, hair and makeup?

1. He is wearing quite dull colours which could suggest that he is a serious character and he is wearing a hat and is a bit tanned which could suggest that he is outside a lot.

2. She is wearing a lot of pink which tells us that she could be quite girly and feminine. She also has long blonde hair which is often associated with being feminine.

3. He is wearing a lot of brown and dull colours which could suggest that he is quite a serious and boring character.

Lighting and colour

What does the lighting and colour suggest about the scene:

The lighting is quite dark and the colours are quite dull which could suggest that the movie is sad or set in the past.

Positioning of people/objects

What does the positioning in the following images reveal about the characters/film? 

1. The characters are sat far apart which could suggest that they had an argument or don't know each other very well or don't get along.

2. The characters are stood together which could suggest that the characters get along and are maybe friends.

Explain in detail what information the MES in the following scene tells us.

2 of the characters are stood behind another character which suggests that the character in front is the most important character in the scene. The scene is set in an old and luxurious house which suggests that it was set in the past and that whoever owns it has a lot of money. The clothes that the characters are wearing also suggest that it was set in the past.

  Thursday 24th September 2020 LO: to analyse a media text using Media Language In the Tenet trailer, mise-en-scene is used effectively to make the scenes more intense. For example guns and people fighting make it more intense , more interesting  and it implies that the film is an action film.  This would persuade  people who like action films t o watch the film.   Editing is also used in the Tenet trailer.   Tuesday 2nd February 2021                                   Setting Why might a director choose the following settings? 1. An isolated house in a rural setting for a horror film. A director might choose this setting for a horror film because it makes it creepier if the house is in the middle of no where as the characters cannot escape easily and get help if they are in danger so it is more likely that whatever is after the characters will be able to get to the characters. 2. A big city for an action film A director might choose this setting for an action film because usually cities are very busy and usually a lot happens in an action film so it would make sense for the film to be set in a busy place 3.
